Compelling donors to give money to support medical research

While hospitals focus on patient care, research institutes are tasked with finding cures to diseases. Some research institutes are affiliated with hospitals and some are standalone, but all work to find solutions to the challenges that doctors and patients face each day. We’ve had the pleasure of helping to spread the word about the excellent work being done at several research institutes—and success always comes down to simplifying the complex.

Telling a complicated story at a glance: Seattle Children’s Research Institute
At the forefront of pediatric medical research, Seattle Children’s Research Institute is working to cure childhood disease in partnership with Seattle Children’s Hospital and Seattle Children’s Hospital and Research Foundation. The institute is internationally recognized for its work in cancer, genetics, immunology, pathology, infectious disease, injury prevention and bioethics.

Seattle Children’s Research Institute needed an infographic to get the word out and help raise money to find new cures for childhood cancer, using the Strong Against Cancer campaign look and feel. Complicated science needed to be distilled down into easy-to-understand information to drive donations.

In addition, Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation and Research Institute turned to us to communicate the complex research conducted by the Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies into a concise, donor-friendly case for support. The purpose was to engage donor prospects in a gene therapy research fundraising initiative by serving as a valuable starting point for major gift conversations with select donors.

Driving funding when government support was cut: Bloodworks Research Institute
Bloodworks is a nonprofit blood center and research institute providing vital medical, transfusion, and lab services to 90 hospitals in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska—as well as driving leading-edge research on blood biology, transfusion, thrombosis, and blood disorders.

At a time when nonprofit organizations across the board were receiving less government funding and therefore seeking even more support from outside donors, Bloodworks Research Institute tapped us to create a high-end major gifts brochure to support their fundraising efforts. This educational piece was used in one-on-one meetings with potential donors and spoke to the lifesaving research for which Bloodworks needed funding.

Punctuating the phenomenal need for innovation in dialysis treatment: Center for Dialysis Innovation
A cooperation between UW Medicine, Kidney Research Institute, and Northwest Kidney Centers, the Center for Dialysis Innovation was looking to introduce new and more comprehensive treatments in the area of kidney care. We took a bold and punchy approach to this major gifts brochure, featuring real patients and quotes highlighting the stigma and painful reality that patients live with daily to inspire donations.

Aligning identity and messaging to help institutes raise funds: Swedish Neuroscience Institute and Institute for Systems Biology
When Swedish Neuroscience Institute and the Institute for Systems Biology joined forces to study brain tumors and their growth, the coalition turned to GA Creative for help with a fundraising campaign identity and message that encouraged funding for advanced brain cancer research and clinical care to extend patients life expectancies. “Hope Today, Healing Tomorrow” illustrated through type how funding today would improve the brain cancer survival rates in the future—and helped the organization meet their fundraising objectives.
